Homeless Count Data Released

Data reveals 417 people and 329 households experiencing homelessness in Shawnee County (DATA SHEET BELOW)

Topeka, KS, March 22, 2016– On January 27, 2016 the Topeka and Shawnee County Homeless Task Force along with many community volunteers conducted a Point-In-Time Count based on where people stayed the night of January 26. Continuum of Care networks are required by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct the Point-in-Time Count each year of both sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness. The count is not only conducted as a requirement of HUD, but it also provides the Homeless Task Force with valuable information regarding homelessness in Shawnee County.

The Topeka and Shawnee County Homeless Task Force is a volunteer organization administered by Community Resources Council (CRC.)

The Community Resources Council links with other collaborative groups to address specific needs in the community. This is accomplished through the development of community-wide initiatives that avoid duplication of services, maximize available resources, implement community plans designed to meet a specific outcome, and monitor progress. CRC’s mission is to connect the resources in our community through Collaboration, Advocacy, Research and Education.
